2020 begins with an important novelty in the world of windows. In fact, Accredia has published the first 117 profiles of installers who have certified their skills according to UNI 11673-2. What is this certification? How do you get it?

With the publication of the UNI 11673-2 standard, the rules for the certification of the skills of the Senior Layer - EQF level 3 and Foreman Layer - EQF level 4 were established. The acronym EQF means "European Qualifications Framework" and represents a classification system in the European (and therefore also Italian) context of professions not organized in orders or colleges, such as that of the window and door installer .

The certifications according to the EQF scheme can only be issued by a competent authority and allows to compare the professional qualifications of citizens within European countries.

This novelty has created new ferment in the market for training and certification of the skills of installers for which often incorrect and partially misleading information has been disclosed; with the aim of providing transparent information, we want to clarify.

What is the certification on the installation of doors and windows? What are the accredited bodies?

Before the publication of this standard, the qualification of the installers could only take place within the scope of voluntary protocols which, however, had no legal value. After the release of the UNI 11673-2 standard, however, the installers who intend to demonstrate their professionalism by obtaining a certificate that has legal value must necessarily undergo an evaluation process by passing a theoretical and practical exam that can only be carried out by Certification Bodies of the Personnel accredited by Accredia .

Those who pass the exam are enrolled in the register of certified professions of Accredia - the Single Accreditation Body designated by the Italian Government to verify the compliance of goods and services with the Standards.

The UNI 11673-2 standard requires that the EQF3 level competences, skills and knowledge be certified first and only then the EQF4 level competences: for this reason it is not possible to take the exam for the EQF4 certification without first having obtained EQF3 certification!

The training courses are used to help installers pass the exam at accredited bodies

The first three personnel certification bodies accredited by Accredia are Dekra Testing and Certification srl, ICMQ and Istituto Giordano; others will follow shortly.

The only training institution that has also obtained the certification of its teacher and of its installation course according to UNI 11673-1 is currently the Ambrosi Partner Training Academy for Window Manufacturers. Those who participate in their training course, at the end, will also be able to take the exam for the certification of EQF3 level competences.

Why should you become a certified window installer?

All the installers claim to be very good and think they are up to date on modern installation techniques, but they often do not know the technical regulations of the sector, nor the requirements that the installation products or the connection joints must have. Thus, on the market there are installers who charge very different prices for the same work and for the client (the window maker who relies on third parties for the installation or the end customer who has to choose between similar products) it is difficult to know who is really competent and those who, on the other hand, install with old and ineffective systems from the thermoacoustic point of view.

Only the certification of skills done in a serious way with the passing of an exam under the supervision of an accredited body can shed light on the real skills of an installer . Now designers and operators in the sector who wish to have a certified skilled installer on their sites will be able to consult the official register held by Accredia .

The individual self-certifications, the certifications of the quality of the service provided by the professional trade associations, are not comparable to a certification of skills since they do not require an examination carried out by an accredited Third Party.

For the window maker who sells doors and windows and the installation service, being able to offer the installation performed by a certified installer means significantly increasing your sales arguments and distinguishing yourself from competitors. In fact, everyone knows that "A good window that is badly installed remains a good window ... that doesn't work !!"

How to choose the best training course to certify your skills?

The UNI 11673-2 standard does not provide for training obligations and therefore it is not mandatory to attend a training course to access the exam for the certification of skills. However, training is actually useful , if not essential, for the installer to obtain the technical and regulatory knowledge to pass the exam for the certification of skills conducted by a certification body accredited by Accredia for the UNI 11673-2 standard.

Some training institutions confuse ideas by offering training courses on laying that issue a "license" without an examination conducted by an Accredited Body and which therefore has no legal value.

If you want to be sure that you have chosen the right course, just ask the following question:
"Will passing the exam at the end of the course allow me to enroll in the Accredia Register of certified professions?"
If the answer is yes, you will have chosen the right course, otherwise it will not be a question of certifying your skills according to the UNI 11673-2 standard.

Opportunities to certify your skills as an installer

All the laying courses provided by Ambrosi Partner allow participants to take the exam at the end of the course to certify themselves at the “EQF3 - Senior Layer” level. The exam (theoretical and practical) is carried out by Dekra and, if passed, allows you to be included in the National Register of Certified Professions of Accredia .

We also want to point out that the installation course also complies perfectly with the requirements of the UNI 11673-3 standard (standard that identifies the minimum requirements for training courses for installers). It is also the only installation course that is simultaneously qualified by Certification Bodies such as DEKRA and CasaClima, and it is the only one to have a speaker who is also a CasaClima teacher.

Since there are currently no other training courses with the same requirements in Italy, Ambrosi Partner has made an organizational effort to allow all installers who wish to certify their skills to be able to access the course by limiting travel to a minimum.
