Mind you, taking the measurements of mosquito nets
is not complicated at all and perhaps it would not even deserve a separate guide. But since
in the event of a mistake there is the risk of throwing money "out the window" (in the true sense of the word!) It seems right to pay due attention to this aspect which is far too underestimated by the insiders. After all, if you've never measured a mosquito net yourself you may not already be able to do it (unless you're a DIY genius, in this case we compliment you!) And, if these things you already knew, repeating them can't hurt you.
Why do we ask you for the measurements of the mosquito net?
If you decide to buy your new mosquito net online, whether it is for a vertical sliding window or a horizontal sliding balcony, you will need to indicate the measurements (in millimeters) of the base and the height of the model you wish to purchase. In fact,
the mosquito net you order will be provided to you tailored and made especially for you , with the specific technical characteristics you have decided (such as the presence or absence of the return spring, the color, the type of net, etc.).
Taking measurements is not a boring or useless moment, but rather it is fundamental to do it with due attention! The request to know the measure of the base and the height of the mosquito net should not surprise you because, since the world began, most of the known things are measured just like that! Just think of the
formula for the area of the rectangle ... and the mosquito nets are nothing more than large rectangles that must be placed on the holes in the wall (in jargon we speak of a wall opening). They can be small or large rectangles, at floor level (such as mosquito nets on French windows that open onto balconies and terraces) or rectangles positioned on holes higher than the floor (windows).

is very easy but there is a risk of making mistakes! You do not know how many times it has happened to us to throw away a new mosquito net just for a carelessness. Sure, these are extreme cases that only happen in the presence of serious measurement errors, but why order a near-perfect mosquito net when you can order the optimal size one?
When ordering, you will be asked to indicate the base and height measurements, specifying whether the mosquito net measurement is finished or empty. What is the difference?
- Finished size (i.e. the exact size of the hole): the mosquito net will be supplied with the same measures ordered;
- Compartment size : the mosquito net will be supplied with 2-3 mm less base and height.
We recommend the compartment measurement method. In this way it will be the manufacturer himself to pull away the space he deems most appropriate (better to trust those who are more experienced and see mosquito nets from morning to evening).
So, making a summary:
If you choose compartment size (or light) - highly recommended:
Base: indicates the smallest measure between L1 and L2;
Height: indicates the smallest measurement between A1 and A2.
If you choose finished size:
Base: indicate the compartment measurement as width and remove about 2/3 mm;
Height: indicates the space measurement as height and subtracts about 2/3 mm.
The golden rule for taking the right mosquito net measurements
What is the rule now that you will always have to keep in mind while taking measurements? Here it is, print it on your head:
if the mosquito net is too big compared to the hole in the wall where it will be inserted, it will be unusable . The only solution will be to do it completely again, with a consequent waste of money. So when you take the measurements you must remember to always provide us with the
smallest measurements if in doubt.
Do not worry if there are small differences: it is normal that the walls are not perfectly aligned, for this reason the measurements are taken in two points. If the walls are irregular (out of square)
up to 6-7 mm there will be no problems during the installation phase.
If the differences between L1 and L2 or between A1 and A2 are greater than 6-7 mm, we recommend that you purchase an insect screen equipped with
telescopic hoods and notify us of this irregularity when ordering by writing it to us in the customer's notes.
Telescopic hoods: a big advantage in case of errors in measurements
The aforementioned telescopic hoods are used to avoid problems of out-of-square installation compartments, and therefore to obtain a perfect finish even in the case of slightly crooked walls. Having or not having telescopic headsets can really make a difference. Some models of mosquito nets already have them integrated as standard, such as the

In this last case, given the absence of headphones for the box, it is very important to measure the base very precisely. This will prevent you from any millimeters of empty spaces that would occur between the box and the compartment.
In case you have mistakenly indicated a measurement with too many millimeters less, with the presence of the caps on the bins you can
buffer any measurement error (for the lateral ones being the box vertical, you can compensate for the error in height, while in the vertical the box will be horizontally at the top and you will compensate for the error in width). In short, opting for a mosquito net model with headphones is a perfect choice for beginners because if you get the measurements wrong you will always have one more chance!

two concrete examples , one for vertical sliding mosquito nets and one for horizontal ones. The best way to understand something is always to see it in action from a practical point of view. No more chatter and let's get to work.
Vertical mosquito nets for windows: an example of how to take measurements
Let's assume we have a window compartment like the one in the image above and with the measurements that are indicated.
If we decide to take the measurements of the vertical mosquito net with the
compartment method we will have that for the base we will take the measurements of the wall in width from the top and bottom (you can also do it in the center if you want to have additional security).
The measure to be taken into consideration is always the smallest one , in this case 854 millimeters. For the height we will take the measurements in height to the right and to the left. As mentioned earlier, the measure to be taken into consideration is the smaller one. In this case 1548 mm. Simple, isn't it?
If we decide to use the
finite measure system we will have to calculate the base as before but in addition remove 2 millimeters (or maximum 3); therefore: 85.4cm - 0.2cm = 852mm. For the height calculated previously, it will be necessary to remove 2 millimeters (or maximum 3) here too; therefore: 154.8cm - 0.2cm = 1546mm.

Horizontal mosquito nets for balconies and French windows: an example of how to take measurements
Now we think we have a compartment at floor height like the one in the image above and with the measurements that are indicated. The difference from the previous example is that here we are talking about a mosquito net for a balcony or for a French window.
If we decide to take the measurements of the horizontal mosquito net with the
compartment method we will have that for the base we will take the measurements of the compartment in width from the top and bottom (and also in the center, if we want to be 100% accurate). The measure to be taken into consideration is always the smaller one, in this case 1354 millimeters. For the height we will take the measurements of the height compartment on the right and left. The measure to be taken into consideration is the smaller one, in this case 2149 millimeters.
If we decide to use the
finite measurement system for the same reference space we will have to calculate the base as before but in addition to remove 2 millimeters we must eliminate 2 mm (or maximum 3); therefore: 135.4cm - 0.2cm = 1352mm. Now let's get the height calculated before, from which we will have to eliminate about 2/3 millimeters; therefore: 214.9 cm - 0.2 cm = 2147 mm.
Obviously, in the case of replacing an already mounted mosquito net we can directly take the measurements of our old mosquito net. That will be our finished measure.
