Modern, classic or rustic? Tell me what kitchen you have and I'll tell you which handle to match!
Since the article
about furniture handles went well - I was also promoted by my architect friends! -, I decided to return to the subject with an article dedicated to kitchen handles. They are the handles most subject to wear, so some advice on how to choose them will be useful for those who need to replace them to renew the appearance of a kitchen that has lost a bit of appeal.
There are handles for modern, classic and rustic kitchens.
Here I will help you choose the handle or knob that best suits the style of your rooms : I will only show you items from the best brands, nothing less.
Kitchen handles? Here are my tips on how to choose
Think how many times you grab handles or knobs in a single “cooking session”: twice at least, or multiples of two - unless you're the kind of person who constantly forgets open drawers and doors! Hard to keep track, huh? This is to give you the measure of how much the kitchen handles are subject to wear and tear. For this reason, when the time comes to choose them, it is important to think not only of the aesthetic aspects, but also of the functional ones.
A handle with all the credentials is:
- Solid and wear resistant . I already gave you the little speech about the best brands of handles , right? Here: rely on those and you will have a long-lasting guarantee. Here on the Windowo e-shop you will find only the best.
- Comfortable to hold . In one word: ergonomic. So as to ensure a good grip. It is also important that it is not slippery.
- Safe . If you have small children running around the house, a curved handle without edges is the safest choice. And not just for the little ones: you also protect yourself from bad bumps.
- Simple to clean . In the kitchen, where you often work with greasy, floured, wet hands, a practical handle to clean will help you save time.
Handle or knob? Many ask us for it. There is no rule to follow: I would like to say that, if we think only of the functional aspect, the handle has a more comfortable and firm grip than a knob. If, on the other hand, we think about aesthetics, we are usually more used to thinking that knobs are more suitable for classic kitchens. If you think so, get ready to see your beliefs dismantled: I'll show you super contemporary knobs that you would never dream of mounting on a rustic kitchen, and vice versa. Nobody forbids you to mix handles and knobs in the same kitchen: you can choose, for example, the knobs for the drawers and the handles for the doors. In this case, don't mess around: the styles must be well-matched.
The only real difference between knobs and handles is how they are fastened to the door or drawer . This is an important aspect that you need to pay attention to. Usually the handles require two holes for fixing, while the knob only needs one - this is not always the case eh, but the vast majority of the time yes. So, in order not to leave unsightly holes on the wall units:
- Avoid replacing a handle (two holes) with a knob (one hole).
- When replacing a two-hole handle with a new one (always two-hole), choose one with the same center distance . So there will be no visible holes.
Having made the necessary recommendations, let's devote ourselves to the aesthetic aspect. Here are the handles and knobs I have chosen for modern, classic and rustic kitchens.
Handles for a modern kitchen
Is your kitchen contemporary, with very essential lines?
Here it is good to choose a handle with equally minimal lines, consistent with the style of the kitchen. I thought of a refined and elegant design handle, which incorporates the straight line motif.
What you see is
Formae's F101 handle , designed by the Bartoli Design studio. It is available in polished and satin chrome, so you can easily combine it with other kitchen details. For example: the glossy finish matches the lacquered furniture; the satin finish matches kitchens with other satin details, feet or appliances. As you can see, it is a perfectly linear handle, which follows the shapes of the most contemporary furniture, has a rigorous and simple design. I would like to say that it is a timeless handle that does not age. From the point of view of practicality, you can't go wrong: Formae combines taste and comfort in use.
What if instead we wanted to choose a design knob for a modern kitchen? I would have no doubt which one to aim for. We always stay in the Formae house.
"Perfect in shape, elegant in style, comfortable to the touch." This is Formae's
F514 knob. Here too, geometric lines are the masters and fit well into a contemporary kitchen: the cube shape is perfect for kitchens with simple and minimal lines and gives character and personality. Here too, you have two types of finish at your disposal: glossy and satin. If you decide to mix knobs and handles in the same kitchen, know that this F514 knob goes well with the F101 handle: there is harmony of lines!
If, on the other hand, you want to focus on an always modern handle, but with softer and more rounded lines, here is the one I have chosen for you.
It is the
F105 handle by Formae. Unlike the previous ones, here dominates a sweet curved line that creates harmony and refers to more natural, familiar shapes. To design it, the Bartoli Design studio was in fact inspired by the wind. What a poem! The design is modern, but with an extra touch of classicism. The grip is ergonomic, easy to grip, with a soft touch effect.
Handles for a classic kitchen
In classic kitchens, natural materials such as wood and marble dominate. Here the finishes speak to us of craftsmanship, tradition, attention to detail.
This must also be the case with the handles.
This is the
3274 handle that comes out of the Lorenz Ferart laboratory, a company that is a symbol of tradition and craftsmanship. It is a classic wrought iron handle that speaks to us of other times, the scrolls give it a very elegant look. Again, you can choose the finish you prefer.
This, on the other hand, is the
knob of the Calì vintage PB line . It has a characteristic mushroom shape, very easy to grip, with the head decorated with a circular pattern and a patiné finish that harmonizes with a classic furniture. In our handle shop you can also find it in other finishes.
Handles for a rustic kitchen
I dedicate a separate paragraph to rustic kitchens, those we imagine to find in old country houses, with traditional copper crockery hanging on the walls and furniture that are unique pieces, the result of artisan inspiration.
For a kitchen like this, I chose the
wrought iron handle 3207 by Lorenz Ferart.
It is a handle that does not go unnoticed: it has an original shape full of character, the result of artisan creativity. You can choose it in an infinite range of finishes, from silver to brass, so as to combine it with the nuances of the wood.
Also very characteristic are the half-moon handles, perfect for drawers.
This is a
060 handle from Galbusera , a company with a long tradition in the production of decorative iron hardware. It is a unique piece, made and finished with artisanal methods. I imagine it mounted on an antique chest of drawers or on an old sideboard worn by time.
I would say that I have already shown you several of furniture knobs and handles. If you want to continue browsing, you have the whole section
of Furniture Handles and Furniture Knobs of our e-commerce to sift through. Please, take a seat! ;)
